The leaves are just starting to change color here. I photographed several projects outside one evening and the last thing to photograph was the wreath. I hung it on one of the hooks on our front porch and I just love how the photo turned out.

Fall Wall Hanging
After making the Elemental Workshop on the Go Layout, I had the negative space left from the large scallop circle. I didn't want to waste it and thought of making a wreath type wall hanging with fall phrases inside the opening. It went quick using the Art Philosophy Cartridge to cut out the leaves to the same size as the stamp.

Tornado Anniversary
A year ago today, around 7:30 in the evening, a tornado went through Southeast Ohio. This area does not see tornadoes and I thought it was not possible because of the hills. It was very scary and has forever altered the landscape of my front yard and the town of The Plains where some of my family lives. There was severe devastation in Reedsville, Ohio and across the river in Belleville, WV.
My mom and I took over 300 photos and I wanted to journal the experience and decided that Studio J would be the best route. I made the first layout pictured fairly soon after the tornado. The photos of the clouds forming into a tornado are from Facebook.
There are some amazing You Tube videos of the storm. Type in "Athens Ohio Tornado" and they should come right up. The scariest video is the one from Athens High School where there was a soccer game going on.
This is something that will be forever in my memories.

Star Baby Quilt
Where have I been? I have taken a little break from scrapbooking for the past few weeks to work on my other hobby...quilting.
I have always made quilts as baby gifts for my friends and family. I usually do simple fabric panels- quilted and binded. I have been wanting to make a pieced baby quilt. This quilt was more of a challenge because the parents want the gender to be a surprise. They have chosen to decorate the nursery in a Wynken, Blynken, & Nod theme inspired by a beautifully illustrated children's book. I went to the fabric store and spent a long time deciding which fabrics I should use. I finally settled on a mixture of prints in light blue and light yellow.
We next went to Walmart to buy some various things and I stopped by the magazine aisle to look at a few quilting magazines. One of them had great basic easy quilts and sewing projects. The quilt that stood out to me the most had a star pattern.
I apologize for the poor photos. I literally finished this the night before the baby shower and ended up wrapping it once I got to work and taking a quick photo before I put it in the gift bag.
You can see some of the quilting detail in the above photo. The fabrics blended together and I wanted the stars to really pop out so I quilted them in a grid pattern the width of my presser-foot.
I am very pleased with how this quilt turned out. The soon-to-be mother said it matched her nursery perfectly. I can't wait to see the little bundle of joy wrapped up in this quilt!
Materials Used:
Pattern- Simple Quilts & Sewing Magazine- Spring 2011
Fabrics- JoAnn Fabrics Nursery Prints
Binding- I bought several spools of this ruffled binding in all different colors when Walmart was discontinuing their fabric department

Typeset
I am featuring the Typeset collection for September. I think it is the perfect mixture of trendy and vintage. The papers have a back-to-school feel and the stamp sets are all distressed vintage- Tim Holtz style.
Check out your September newsletter for details about this month's crop or contact me.
